The Community Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
At 1003 m above sea level, Saalbach-Hinterglemm is at 90% tourist-oriented. With approximately 16500 beds we belong to Austria’s largest tourist-oriented towns.
Summer: One of the largest hiking regions with 400 km of marked hiking paths, 80 km of mountain bike paths, four cable railways - Schattberg, Kohlmais, Zwölferkogel and Reiterkogel – are at the disposal of hiking and excursion guests between May and October.
A generously renovated swimming pool, as well as a tennis court in Saalbach and Hinterglemm enrich the infrastructure.
The highly qualitative gastronomy – ranging from 4-star hotels to private accommodation – can offer everything you wish for. Restaurants, bars and other places round off the offer.
Winter: Our skiing area, up to an altitude of 2100m, offers in the ski circus with Leogang 60 lifts and 200 km of prepared slopes. Snow making installations take care of the snow. Snowboarder can enjoy our fun parks. Skiing at night? No problem: We even have a wonderful slope with floodlights.
Because of the bypassing tunnel in Saalbach and Hinterglemm, a pedestrian zone was established for the village of Saalbach in 1991. The recreational standard in town was improved. Sport, Recreation, Entertainment and Leisure Time are spelled with capitals here.

The municipal coat of arms
From the Confirmation Document of Salzburg’s Provincial Government ( 1st October 1975):
In a red shield two rising crossed golden skis, accompanied on top by a silver snow crystal and underneath by three silver balls (one on top of the other two), the whole shield covered by a silver waved crossbar. The symbols of the coat of arms point to the history of Saalbach.
The silver waved crossbar represents the river Saalach and the silver balls point to St. Nicolas, who was documented along with St. Bartholomew in 1410. The snow crystal and the crossed skis characterise Saalabach as the starting point of winter tourism in Land Salzburg. The farmhand, Josef Wallner, brought skiing to his home town in 1898, where the new sport quickly became a favourite.
